History
     In June 1996 - a year before the 175th anniversary of the birth of Peter Michal Bohun and the 40th anniversary of the art school in Dolny Kubin, the Ministry of Education awarded the school the title for many years of its creative pedagogical work of teachers in the field of cultural activities within the region, as well as for the presentation abroad. The school has been renamed after  the Veličná native, a significant Slovak painter and graphic artist of the 19th century, whose work is among the most realistic, progressive and democratic traditions of Slovak art, which his paintings with historical themes, laid the foundations of Slovak historical painting.

This school year will complete the 20 years since the announcement of the competition and also the 29th September is the day of the 195th anniversary of the birth of P. M. Bohun, which gives us the opportunity to relive the memory of life milestones and achievements of this undoubtedly most important Slovak artist of the 19th century. Since the first edition of the competition was dedicated to the birth anniversary of the artist, even after the twenty years we want to build on this tradition and pay this year's competition theme focused on the artist. The competition over the time successfully redesigned to XX. year and its central theme is the portrait, figure, figural composition and free interpretation of the work of art that remains in the base motives and XX. edition of the competition, but every year is supplemented with new topics that give a broader dimension to competition in content and fine arts.

The competition aims
     The competition is the subjective testimony of students on the basis of observation and learning the facts and events, activities and experiences and to build a deeper relationship to his environment.
